Transloading and shipment of the first export batch of material was completed in the shortest time possible in compliance with all safety requirements. It confirmed in practice a possibility of using Ust-Luga seaport for commercial deliveries of Russian nuclear industry high technology products to the United States and European countries.
Until recently export deliveries by sea to these regions were performed primarily through Saint-Petersburg seaport. Ust-Luga seaport is included in the list of Russian Federation seaports that has been granted a permit for calls by vessels carrying nuclear materials and radioactive substances on board. According to TENEX General Director Liudmila Zalimskaya, using this seaport within the framework of diversification the departure points for uranium products shipment will allow a higher flexibility in relationships with customers and minimize the risks for non-performance of contractual obligations in case of unforeseen situations in Saint-Petersburg seaport.
